System Goals

Overall Performance Goals
The overall goal of this installation was to integrate the new audio system into the truck with very little visible equipment while leaving the stock system in place and functional.

The audio system was designed to simulate as closely as possible a live performance with the musicians seeming to hover out in front of the truck hood. I wanted to be able to determine the depth, height and lateral placement of the instruments. Tonal qualities, transients, and reflected sound were to mimic live performances as closely as possible. Only the front seats were considered as listening positions. This led us to deciding on kick panel locations for the speakers.

Stock Radio and Cellular-Keep It!
The stock radio from Ford controls the stock cellular phone. The phone plays through the speakers in all 4 doors. The volume knob on the stock stereo controls the level of the phone playing through the stock speakers. I wanted to keep this function intact, while still adding a completely new stereo system for music.

The stock stereo from removed from the dash. It was relocated to the truck behind a panel. Other items moved from the front of the truck to the trunk include: car computer, cellular phone brain, cellular phone antenna, various other switches, etc. The volume knob was removed from the stock stereo which has been moved to the trunk. The volume knob was relocated to the armrest between the front seats. This allows volume control of the voice activated cellular phone which plays through the stock stereo.
